Diet Mentality With Porn

Diet Mentality

People with the “diet mentality” don’t succeed in maintaining the weight they want to be at. They either 1) quit part way through and don’t ever reach their goal, or 2) reach their goal and gain the weight back.

These things happen to most people.

It is the same with porn. It is like we expect to go on some kind of protocol/diet and then go off of it and just coast. This does not work with dieting and it does not work with porn.

The question is, at what point do we try something new and different for different results? And what would that look like exactly?

Is a Different Diet Really Trying Something Different?

We think we are trying something new and different by changing what we eat with each new diet. But if your thinking remains the same, you will get the same results again and again and again.

I’m not suggesting you can’t learn valuable information from diets about how different foods affect your body. This is a very useful part of trying different diets.

Remember: our thinking creates our feelings which drive our actions.

Do you expect to go on a porn diet for a certain amount of time and then go off of it and just coast? With food, you would gain the weight back. No matter how long you go without pornography, you will go right back to it if you do nothing to change your underlying thinking.

Right now you might be using your energy to control everything in your life that you think makes you feel certain ways even though it doesn’t. This isn’t your fault.

If I think losing 50 lbs will help me feel better, I will lose the weight, still feel crappy from my thoughts, and gain the weight back.

If I think other people’s actions are causing my feelings I will try to control their actions to try to feel better. But it won’t work. Their actions will never be good enough to make me feel better.

If I think not looking at porn will help me feel better, I will go for as long as I can, still feel crappy, and then turn to porn again.

Try Something That Works

Wouldn’t you like to direct that energy toward something that works instead of something that hasn’t worked? The diet mentality does not work.

What if you stop using all that energy trying to resist all negative emotions in your life?

What if you changed your thinking to create lasting, long-term change in your life?

What if you don’t need to get to a point where you can coast?

What if you can learn to sustain yourself along the way and continually?

What if not coasting can be a fun and exciting part of life that helps you feel alive, experiencing the full human experience?

What if you can learn to want certain negative feelings?

What if you can learn to handle any feeling that comes your way?

The feelings you want will not come from a porn diet. They don’t come from toughing it out for a specific amount of time and then coasting. The feelings you want will only come when you change your thinking to the thinking you want.
